ORIGINS
It all started on a small island, in Lake Victoria, Uganda.
A camera, a small wooden boat, and a handful of Bibles. That is all this was supposed to be. We did not go looking for a ministry. We went looking for a story to film. What we found instead was a question we could not put down, and a woman whose five years of prayer were about to be answered in front of us.
A Last-Minute Ride, and a Five Year Prayer
We were leaving the mainland to shoot a story about Bible distribution, headed out toward the islands, when a pastor asked for a ride to his island along the way. We agreed, and as we got close to his shoreline, we cut the engine and let the boat drift the rest of the way in. He stood up, looked me in the eye, shook my hand, and said something I have never forgotten. “Please come back with just one hundred Bibles." That is all we need for our island.
That request stayed with us the rest of the trip. One hundred Bibles, for an entire island. We started asking around, and we kept hearing the same story everywhere we went. Church members had no Bibles. Pastors were shepherding congregations with no Scripture in their hands at all. Men leading churches from dreams, and secondhand teaching, never from the page.
One of those stories belonged to a woman named Irene. She had been praying for a Bible of her own for five years. The day we arrived, her prayer was answered. We watched her receive God’s Word for the first time in half a decade of asking. EveryBibleCounts was born in that moment, out of the simple conviction that placing Scripture into the hands of people who had none would be our greatest joy.
Doors That Were Never Open
For the first year, that was the work. We distributed Bibles, taught short lessons alongside the giving, and rejoiced every time Scripture reached a new village. But in a question and answer session about a year in, something became clear that we could not unsee. The body of Christ in these villages was not simply under resourced. It was broken.
We had placed Bibles in hands, but the Word of God was still nowhere to be found in the actual life of these churches. The gospel was distorted. People had no real ability to understand what they were holding, and that began with the pastor.
The pastors themselves had no theological training, and it was not for lack of desire. Many had only a P7 level education, which alone disqualified them from formal seminary admission. Even if a door had been open, the seminaries were far away, and these men could not simply leave for months or years at a time.
They were farmers as well as pastors, tending the same gardens that fed their families while they shepherded their churches, and walking away from either one for an extended season was not a real option. What little money came in went to feeding their households, not tuition. Seminary training was not a choice they turned down. It was completely out of reach.
For many, their false teaching was born of ignorance, not neglect
So when we encountered false teaching and confusion in these churches, we were not looking at bad intentions. We were looking at the natural result of men who loved God and loved His people but had never once been given the chance to be taught Him rightly themselves.
Not a distribution problem
Once we saw that clearly, we had to admit that access to Bibles was never the real issue. A Bible in a home with no one able to faithfully teach it would not solve what was broken. This was a discipleship problem, not a distribution problem.
That realization changed everything about how we built this ministry. We stopped asking how many Bibles we could place in the most hands, and started asking a different question. What does it look like to build the strongest churches, ones who could actually steward God’s Word well.
That meant pastors who knew the gospel and could rightly teach it. It meant members who treasured Scripture and could live it out together in the life of a local church. We became convinced that this, and not raw access, was where light would actually break forth.
Entrusted, not just given
This is the heart behind Second Timothy 2:2, where Paul charges Timothy to entrust what he has received to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Scripture was never meant to simply be distributed and left. It was meant to be entrusted, generation to generation, through a chain of faithful teaching that starts in the local church.
A village can have a hundred Bibles in it and remain in the dark if no one is equipped to open them rightly. Our calling became arming the local church herself: training her pastors, placing Scripture in the hands of her members, and building a strategy for her to carry that light into her own community.
That conviction, that Scripture is a trust rather than a product to distribute, is the foundation everything else at EveryBible Counts is built on.
To see Christ exalted in every community, and across generations.
To see that vision realized, we strengthen the local church to faithfully proclaim the Word of God, grounding the church in sound teaching and making Scripture accessible in every form it needs. That means training pastors who never had the chance to be equipped, and placing Scripture in the hands of members who treasure it, and giving them the tools to take the gospel into their own communities. None of this happens by accident. It happens through three convictions that shape everything we do.
FAITHFUL FORMATION
The foundation before the function
Lasting change does not begin with programs. It begins with people. We invest deeply in pastors and church leaders through relational, culturally engaged training and discipleship, delivered in their own heart language. We prioritize heartfelt repentance and genuine transformation over scale or academic achievement, walking alongside leaders not as instructors but as fellow shepherds.
BREAKING BARRIERS
Where others stop, we start
Geographic isolation, economic hardship, language, and educational gaps will not determine where the seed of God’s Word can be faithfully sown. We travel the distance, provide meals, housing, printed curriculum, and heart language Bibles, so that pastors and church leaders have real access to training and equipping.
When something stands between a community and the Word of God, we are committed to breaking through it.
Eternal Endurance
Not programmatic. Not organizational. Eternal.
We do not measure success by the size of our programs or the reach of our organization. We measure it by the faithfulness of churches that, long after we are gone, continue to teach the Word, make disciples, show mercy, and pass the truth to the next generation. That is the only endurance that matters.
